Yummy Bites From The Cupcake Club

Now who in their right mind doesn’t love a cupcake – especially when it’s light, airy and melt-in-your-mouth? Plus there is an endless list of things you can do with cupcakes…from taste to decorating and all the special little touches in between. This interview with Robin, the leader of The Cupcake Club, offers us the voice of experience, along with her time-tested tips and tricks. I’m pleased to consider her a foodie friend…after today’s read and links to more yummy bites, I’m convinced you’ll be feeling the same way!

As the cupcake queen ;) …please tell us about the best and worst cupcake you have ever eaten. What was going on with the cupcake that made you have a best/worst impression?

The best cupcakes I’ve ever eaten, and yes, I did eat more than one, was at a friend’s baby shower. They were homemade vanilla cupcakes with a lighter-than-air pink frosting and a delicate coating of sugar on top, just enough to make them sparkle. They tasted like heaven, made even better by the fact that I didn’t have to bake them myself.

The worst cupcake I’ve ever tasted came from a supermarket bakery and one bite was enough. The texture was the consistency of a dried out sponge and the frosting was way too sweet. I can honestly say that after that I’ve never even tried another cupcake that wasn’t home baked.

The Cupcake Club HQ directory spotlights 100 of the most delicious cupcake pages on the Internet. To date how many pages for the club have been created? Please talk with us about your ideas for making a lens (page) go from ordinary to extraordinary.

As of this writing I can proudly say the Cupcake Club has 230 members who’ve created 315 lenses with about two dozen of those lenses in the top tier payout at Squidoo. Add our 990 fans at Facebook and you realize that there’s quite a lot of cupcake fans out there.

Our blog, Cupcake Recipes and More, is getting some nice traffic and judging by what I see there in terms of popular posts I’d say that to create an extraordinary cupcake lens you need to go very niche. Pick a flavor, or a specific decorating idea, and stick with it. If you find yourself starting to stray from your chosen cupcake type, stop, and write your new ideas down so you’ll have them for your next cupcake lens.

Think of cupcake ideas that would appeal to a certain reader, a busy mom is probably looking for an easy decorating idea that will wow the kids, someone giving a themed party is looking for cupcakes to match. Keep your reader in mind as you create the lens and be sure to share helpful tips with them in mind.

There are literally thousands of ways to decorate a cupcake, not to mention how expensive it can get to purchase all the gadgets and accessories. Give us your tips to decorating cupcakes on a dime.

The absolute easiest, cheapest, and most fun way to decorate a cupcake is to use your favorite flavor of frosting, and pop a piece of candy on top then dust lightly with sprinkles. This trick works for both children and adults too. Just choose a family favorite candy treat and watch everyone’s eyes light up when you serve them their cupcakes. No special equipment required!

If you were a tree…ha! just joking. I would like to ask a Barbara Walter type question though. If you could choose to be any kind of cupcake, what would it be? Why?

Oh that’s easy! I’d be a cute little birthday cupcake because those are the happiest cupcakes of all.

When you are not bakin’ up cupcakes, what is your favorite comfort food to make for your family?

My personal all-time favorite comfort food is a heaping dish of homemade manicotti, heavy on the cheese and dripping with sauce, but my family loves make-your-own pizza night best of all.

  1. Thank you so much for featuring the Cupcake Club!

  2. Great interview Correen. Gotta love the cupcake club! Cupcakes = happiness.

  3. i love cupcakes, but when it comes to frosting I think I have two left hands. I was earlier at a cupcakery here in Myrtle beach, they were good, but oh boy, they look so pretty, some too pretty to be eaten.
