High Five to Shea a Dixie Chik That Cooks
Oh my! Is it Friday already? That’s what I get for having fun with my family and staying busy creating new things in the kitchen (more about that another time, I promise
).
Today on the blog it’s all about Shea and our foodie blog, Dixie Chik Cooks interview. Thanks for getting in touch and requesting an interview…it’s always a sweet surprise to hear from food bloggers and to get a chance to showcase them here. Without further ado…here we go, enjoy the read.
Tell us a little bit about your site, Dixie Chik Cooks.
Dixie Chik Cooks was born out of my desire to chronicle my recipes. I’ve always had a love for food and cooking, and I wanted to share my passion with others. I also wanted to document my favorite dishes so I could see how my cooking evolves over time. Although I’ve never considered myself a writer, blogging gives me an outlet to express my passion for food. I write about my recipes, others’ recipes, family, kid stuff, etc.
As far as photography, I just recently got a DSLR. I use a Pentax K-r. I’m slowly learning…

If you picked up five ingredients at the store for dinner what would they be and what would you make?
Tough question – I love so many things. My list would be salmon filets, a head of fresh broccoli, Israeli couscous, fresh lemons and a good bottle of Pinot Grigio.
I would grill the fish with a spicy/sweet glaze (soy, brown sugar, cayenne, etc), make ginger sesame broccoli and couscous, and of course a chilled glass of Pinot!
And by the way, there’s nothing more inspiring to me than to see someone take a handful of ingredients, no plan, and create something delicious.
Sounds like your hubby is a lot like mine…accepting of what we put on the plate. Tell us about your hubby and share a couple of his favorite things to eat.
My husband, Mark, is a business owner here in Alabama. He’s a fantastic husband and dad, and has always been my biggest supporter. He never tells me no when I need him to be a guinea pig for some of my kitchen creations (although I’m sure he’s wanted to a few times) – such a good sport. He and I have always shared a love for food – although he doesn’t get as excited about being in the kitchen as I do. A few of his favorite dishes include Chicken Parm, sushi and linguini with clam sauce. I haven’t mastered the clam sauce…but it’s on my list!
You mentioned on your About Me on the blog that you are a new nurse. First off, congratulations and thank you for taking care of our loved ones! How do you balance work, family, and blogging?
Balancing family, work and blogging isn’t the easiest thing to do, but having a family that is so supportive makes it possible. I would love to say that I’m super organized but that isn’t the case! I’ve learned that when I get to the point when blogging begins to feel like a chore, I know I need to step away for a few days; then I get my steam back full force. There are also those days when guilt sets in from feeling like I’m being stretched too thin – and I know it’s time to close the laptop for a little while.
Pinterest is one of the newest social networking sites shaking up the Internet. What are your favorite things about the site?
I absolutely love Pinterest! I love the fact that you can share recipes, tips, really anything and everything with others and have it all in one place without having to click around the entire web. My pin page is here.
Dixie Chik Cooks is maintained by Shea Goldstein. She’s a mother, a wife and a nurse who blogs about all things food from her Alabama kitchen. She’s a girl that thinks about what’s for dinner while eating lunch.
