Our Chat In Katrina’s Kitchen

Cookie Monster Cookies

Well hello and pass me a plate of cookies and a spot of tea! Thanks to Carolyn from All Day I Dream About Food for introducing me to Katrina. This was me…click, ~swoon, read, smile…I fell in deep like love with Katrina’s site! Her writing style is warm and inviting and ooh, ooh her pics are super delish. It’s with great pleasure that I share our chat on here for all of you! ;)

When someone clicks on a link to In Katrina’s Kitchen what are the first impressions you would like them to have?

I want you to feel like you’re sitting at my dining room table. We’re eating something delicious together talking about something that makes us both laugh and I’m probably cleaning up the milk that my children just spilled. Really, I’m just a mom who loves to bake. If you know the Katrina of my blog you would get along with me in real life. Mostly I like to laugh with my friends and I surround myself with funny, laid back people. I want you to get that feeling when you visit my blog too.

You are so down to earth – your writing, your recipes, your warm attitude. Talk to us about how your writing takes shape and keeps you creating each unique blog post.

That’s so sweet of you! I write about my everyday life as most bloggers do. My stories probably aren’t much different than yours actually. My kids and husband bring out the best in my life and I hope that translates into my writing.

As a mommy blogger with little ones…how do you balance your home and online life?

People ask me this all of the time! I will tell you that this is the reason why I blog mostly about what I bake (and not about dinner). My kids really do drink milk, and have at least 3 meals a day, and I promise they know what veggies are- my 4 year old actually prefers broccoli over french fries. However I would never attempt to ask my family to wait even 60 seconds while I try to take a picture of dinner before we eat. They have a hard time waiting while I turn the oven off and sit down! Baked goods are easy to photograph even days later while I have a few minutes during the baby’s nap and while my preschooler gets out his toys with little pieces that are otherwise banned.

Name the three foods and or kitchen gadgets that you like to work with the most. Why?

I always have chocolate chips in my pantry. If a recipe is lacking and I’m feeling a bit nervous about serving it I add chocolate chips. I’m not kidding!

I’m always in need of powdered sugar as I am constantly running out. Please, if you know me and live near me PLEASE pick me up a bag the next time you are at the store. It is one of those ingredients that I always think I have enough of only to be disappointed when I open the pantry door.

My LOUD beeping digital kitchen timer is a life-saver. I can’t tell you how many times I have been knee-deep in toys and wrinkling laundry to have the timer remind me of that final batch of cookies in the oven.

How did you take care of YOU today?

I read a lot. My husband and I are the nerdy couple at Panera that orders the dine-in coffee and sits in the booth reading our books. That’s what I prefer to do when I have a few minutes to myself as well. I also like to papercraft. I use stamps and stickers and pretty paper to make cards for people. Mostly the cards say, “I apologize for unloading yet another plate of sweets on you. I hope you’ll forgive me.”
