Delight In Rosa’s Yummy Yums

Galette Du Pont by Rosa's Yummy Yums

It’s with pleasure that I get to introduce you to Rosa and her wholly immersive Yummy Yums blog. Her love of life and pleasures of sharing awesome food fill the pages…it’s impossible to just click and click away to somewhere else on the net, because Rosa beckons you to sit a spell with her engaging writing style and crowd-pleaser shots of food and places. Today is a very good day here on Food Lovers…thanks to my new foodie friend Rosa!

A rock n’ roll attitude, huh? Talk to us about how that shapes you and your blogging.

Well, I have a cool attitude towards cooking and don’t take myself too seriously even if I prepare some serious grub. I experiment a lot and like to be a non-conformist in the kitchen (as I am in life in general). I like my music to be loud, honest, bold, passionate and spicy, and the same can be said about my food. So, my blogging reflects that.

Peeking into your life…what is a typical day of cooking and eating like for you?

Generally, I don’t eat much during weekdays. As I am alone at home until the evening, I keep it simple and will have a salad or a soup. For dinner, I’ll prepare something more nourishing, but still quite humble. Then, around 9pm I’ll indulge in something sweet like a cake, a pudding or a dessert of some sort. As our budget is low, we can’t afford to eat luxurious meals or meat during the week, so I’ll cook modest, yet tasty vegetarian dishes from Monday to Friday. Then during the weekend, we’ll have a couple of bottles of good wine to accompany our gourmet meals. Whatever I make, I always try to use local, seasonal, healthy, non-industrial and quality ingredients. Everything I cook or bake is homemade, and I take pride in that.

You have a lovely mix of photographs on your site – from food to scenery. Tell us about you, the photographer.

Thank you! I love taking pictures and showing the beauty that surrounds us through my lenses. I am only an amateur photographer who still has a lot to learn, but I try my best to share clicks that have a soul and please the eyes as well as the spirit. I shoot instinctively as I am a not that much of a technical person.

In your opinion, what is one of the best and one of the worst foods on this earth. Why?

None. When it comes to food it is a question of taste, culture and mentality. There is no such thing as bad food/cuisine, only bad cooks! One man’s hell is another man’s heaven… Of course, that doesn’t mean that I find everything appetizing. Far from that. For example, things like maggots or sea cucumbers repulse me to the highest level, although for some it is considered a delicatessen by the people who eat them.

How has family influenced your love of cooking and sharing recipes?

I have been strongly influenced by both my English and Swiss grandmothers as well as my mother who were all marvelous and talented cooks. All three have introduced me to cooking and made me understand the true meaning of the word gastronomy. In my family, eating has always been very important and all the dishes that graced our table were invariably 100% homemade. I grew up eating only healthy, flavorful and natural food that was made with the best regional produces. Food is all about sharing and giving love. There is no pleasure in cooking for oneself and greedily keeping knowledge to yourself. It is for that reason that I created Rosa’s Yummy Yums nearly 6 years ago. In that way, it was possible for me to spread through my site a bit of the culinary heritage I received…

NostalgiaMy name is Rosa, the creator of Rosa’s Yummy Yums. I live in a small Geneva countryside village situated in the French speaking part of Switzerland – a few meters away from the French border. I’m an Anglo-Swiss food enthusiast who loves photography, loud rock or electronic music, walks in the countryside, meeting interesting people, cats, books and independent films. When I’m not writing for my blog, you’ll also find me over at The Rambling Epicure, a daily international food chronicle and online newspaper to which I contribute as a freelance writer.
