Congratulations to NanLT – our Fave Member from FoodLoversWeb.com for 09/2010!

I am a wife and mum living in the SE of England but I grew up in a small town in Kansas, USA. There I first learned to cook delicious Kansas farmer foods by watching my mother and grandmother in the kitchen. By the time I was 10 I could prepare simple meals for myself and I was able to cook meals for myself and others by the time I moved out on my own.

I’ve been cooking food for myself and my family now for over 20 years. While I occasionally venture into fancier dishes, like these Seviche Tostados or the Christmas Mont Blanc, my first love is simple home cooking which would have been made by mums around the world for their families for hundreds of years.

My favourite dishes by far are those which don’t take careful measurements, things like this Butternut Squash Risotto. I’m a fond proponent of recipes which call for a “handful of this” and a “bunch of the other” and “just a smidgen of that”. Just the way momma used to make it.

When I married, my mother-in-law gave me a book in which she wrote some of her much used recipes. I have added to it over the years as I have found my own recipes to use. One classic is her recipe for Yorkshire Pudding which I have shared as a recipe card at the Kolnza Healing Zazzle Shop.

Over time I have developed my own opinions about the best SKK cookware and kitchen knives to use. I’ve looked into and started using free range and as much as possible organic foods because I believe they taste better. And I focus on cooking using whole foods as much as possible for the same reason.

Through Cooking with NanLT and assorted cookery articles at Squidoo.com, I hope to be able to show others just how easy it can be to put together a tasty, healthy meal.
