THE BEST sour cream coffee cake I’ve ever eaten was baked with love in my grandma’s kitchen. My grandma’s sour cream coffee cake recipe was always warm, nutty and moist…always! Without fail I’ve also accomplished the feat of making darn good coffee cake too…because of grandma’s recipe.

As the keeper of my grandma’s hand-written recipe journals I love looking through them…recalling the times we settled down at her table to savor the flavors – from her kitchen to our tummies. On the page with this sour cream coffee cake is a note from grandma…”This is nice with your a.m. coffee” and I totally agree.

My Grandma's Sour Cream Coffee Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, room temp
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups flour, sifted
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Topping
  • 1 cup pecans, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Method

  1. Cream butter and sugar. Add in and beat eggs, sour cream, and vanilla into a smooth batter. Add sifted flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; mix in well. Pour into a greased 11×7 pan, add topping. Bake at 350° for 30-40 minutes or until baked through.

  3. Fold in 1/2 to 1 cup of seasonal fruit, my fave – blueberries .
